Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house. It’s for your car too! Especially when you live in a place like Denver, Colorado. With the winter road conditions being what they were, even your undercarriage needs a good spring cleaning. All of the salt and chemicals used to keep us safe on the roads and highways make for some pretty nasty wear and tear that can lead to rust. Oh no, not rust! That is the worst! Yes. Yes, it is.
Start your spring cleaning with a good and thorough washing of your car. Get in underneath to clean out all the rust causing agents. Thoroughly wash the entire vehicle. You will feel so good driving down the street not having that gunk all over it. You will look good too!
Starting from the outside, make your way to the inside. If you don’t want to pay for a detail service, there are so many ways you can do it yourself. Using a makeup brush or a paintbrush, you can brush out all the dust in your vents. Next up, concocting a paste of vinegar and baking soda; apply liberally to your cloth upholstery and scrub. Once it dries, vacuum it up. Next, take a little bit of coconut oil or olive oil and rub it into your dash, consul, and steering wheel. Just make sure to rub it in and wipe away any excess thoroughly. This will help keep it from cracking in the long run. It will also help to get it extra clean.
All good spring cleaning should include some car maintenance. This is the perfect time to check all of your fluids and your tires. The colder weather changes the air pressure in your tires. The rough driving conditions can take its toll on them as well. Aside from checking pressure, visually inspect tread depth and the sidewalls for any damage. When it comes to fluids, you will want to make sure that you have the right windshield wiper fluid that is appropriate for this time of year. Don’t ever use just water. Make sure your oil is topped off and is still doing its job. If it is dark in color or gritty, it is time for a change even if your mileage doesn’t agree.
Springtime is also a fabulous time to change out your air filter. Nobody likes a stinky interior. It helps clear the air, but it also helps keep debris from reaching your engine; debris that can do damage to your engine. An air filter in and of itself will not cost you very much. They are usually pretty easy to change on your own too.
